The new alpha-index is nothing like what we had before, now we don't have characters, but instead we have character entities which can be:
  • support for default Alpha-index per Language via new strings in language files
  • supports character 'entities'
    -- ranges
    -- aggregations
-- aliases (and a hardcoded alias is # for  0-9 numbers)
    -- combinations of the above
  • support utf8 characters in the MySQL query for all in (2) (above)
  • allow custom per category Alpha-Index  while being able to maintain multi language ability
  • option to skip unused characters (they not displayed)
  • new category option to allow a custom separator to be used, instead of boxes around characters
  • comprehensive and detailed description on-line help (popup balloons) in category editor For ALPHA-INDEX usage
  • ability of alpha-index to work with joomla cache enabled
  • Some css fixes and classes added, like highlighting for current alpha index character (entity)
TIP 1: Open a category description to see learn how to use via the on-line help. TIP 2: Edit your language files to have a custom per language alpha-index (you can override in category editor and the use copy parameters to update many categories)
