In order to be able to perform a translation of FLEXIcontent in the best conditions please follow this procedure :
(sample for the german language / de-DE)

Preparatory work :

Translation :

  1. Choose the menu : components -> translation manager
  2. Click on Administrator -> German, then on View Files

  3. Click on com_flexicontent to create the language file and start the translation.

The document is structured by views in order to make it easy for translators. The main categories are VIEWS CONTROLLERS and PARAMETERS.

  4. Don't forget the plugins and the frontend language file (site).

  5. You will find the created files here :
    1. Site :
      language/de-DE/de-DE.com_flexicontent.ini
    2. Administration :
      administrator/language/de-DE/de-DE.com_flexicontent.ini
      administrator/language/de-DE/de-DE.plg_flexicontent_fields.................ini
...and so on for the other plugins
  6. Create two zip archives : admin and site and send it over to me (emmanuel AT joomla DOT fr), I'll either integrate it the core or build an installer for your package.

Good luck and thanks in forward for your help.

about translating custom fields you have to use Joom!Fish for everything except items, and then create an item per language read more here:
http://www.flexicontent.org/documentation/faq/42-faq/207-how-to-use-joomfish-and-flexicontent.html

about alpha index: v1.5.6 has a new very powerful alpha-index that supports utf-8 and you can fully customize it, read more here:
http://www.flexicontent.org/documentation/faq/42-faq/242-using-the-new-alpha-index.html
