Understanding the file manager

Some aspects of the file manager TAB are obvious, like the filters, but others are not ...

The file manager has a column called "assigned" there you will see 2 numbers with an icon,
-- one number shows how many items use the file inside "an image field"
-- and the other number how many items use the file inside a "file field"

CURRENTLY it does not show the usage of files by minigallery or other third party fields

I have a number of enhancements in mind for the files manager. Like:
1. Listing the usage of file by minigallery fields
2. Add links to display the list of items that use each file

It would nice with the ability to have more control in the file manager -- e.g. being able to put files into folders.

Also, a preview function for the files would be awesome.

Sounds great. Will there be an option to organise the files? I have already hundreds of files orgnised with FlexiContent and bond to articles via the file field. Would be nice if I could re-organise the files in subfolders without loosing the connection to the articles.

-- I guess it should be possible to move files to subfolders without need to reedit items since the file-related fields store ids

-- Also we want to allow file usage without entering the files in the file manager, e.g. for image galleries.

There is a very nice plugin "Huge gallery" image gallery plugin that doesnot enter the images in the file manager database instead you select directly from a folder.
