Limitations and issues when using import for updating instead of just creating new items

I tried to import more than 10,000 contents, and got some problems.

1. Create/Update
  • When all contents are 'Create', it's no problem to choose 'Create'.
  • When all contents are 'Update', it's no problem to choose option 'Create / Update'.
  • When there are both 'Create' and 'Update' contents, the importing will break.
In my situation, first 10 are 'Create', and last 2 are 'Update'. I choose the option 'Create / Update'. The fist 10 importing is good, but stop at creating 11.
What I've done is separate the 'Create' and 'Update' contents, then I did import twice.

2. State
The 'State' column seems useless. There are state values in my file (1 for published and 0 for unpublished). I choose the option 'Use state Column'. After I imported the file(update), the state of all items became unpublished.

3. Tags
It's ok to import tags. But when there is no tags value in the file, I choose the option 'Do not import tags'. After imported the file(update), the tags of all items are cleared. Is it OK to add a option to ignore update tags when update items? I think it's reasonable to keep the tags when users just want to update some other fields.

When I do import, the file is passed the checking, all data are showed correctly. But the state column is not showed. So I think my file should be OK.

Here are some problems I found now.

Thanks,
Lomu

Hello

Please note that content import was initially implemented to be "create only"

Possibility to update was added later after request
- it is a new feature of 3.2.x

1. about mixing create / update, i will check, it was supposed to be able to mix them

2. about state, it should become unpublished only for non-priveleged users that have no publish in the category,
in your case , you are super admin, this should not happen !

3. about tags, i think we missed this one when added the possibility to update
- we added code to load items maintain field values
the tags are stored in seperate table and possible we missed something

Currently doing work to link and sync FLEXIcontent tags with Joomla tags
so import task should create Joomla tags too ...

Hi
Thanks for your reply.

1. Mixing create/update:
After clicking prepare import task, the page DOES show all items, including all create and update. It breaks when importing.

2. The state:
After clicking prepare import task, the page shows NO state column.

These are the situation. Hope it helps.

Thanks,
Lomu

Hello

i have

- fixed all 3 of them

- also added mode Update-only
(which will check that all items exists before starting the process)

- also some small layouts improvements in post-process listing screen

Hi
Is it possible to make some ignore options?

Like I just want to update some fields, but want to keep the title, state, categories.

Meanwhile seems that I can leave the title and state blank, and after importing, the title and state will be the same. But need to put categories in, or the import will use default category.

Just a thinking. If it can't be, that's OK.

Thanks,
Lomu
