I wonder if it is possible that items that are in the recycle bin, be deleted after X days.

in flexicontent no
but you can test with a joomla plugin like this extensions.joomla.org/extension/jextbox-article-auto-manager

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.
Like the our support? (for a bug-free FC, despite being huge extension) Like the features? Like the ongoing development and future commitment to FLEXIcontent?

note that extra FLEXIcontent data will not be deleted if you use a 3rd party plugin
