Hello,

is it possible to store uploaded images or files in different folders? If you have a lot of articles with downloads or images this would be very helpful.

Thank you and best regards, Macjoomla

Hello

you can create an image field in "folder-mode", which create 1 folder per
item_id + field_id

Hello

it is possible to extend file field to use files that are not added in the DB, just this was not as important as it was for image-gallery field !

p.s. multiple upload (image-gallery field in folder-mode) capability is added in v2.1.3

it is via plupload library
(AJAX based with progress display)

Hello

just asking:

what kind of content do you have?
why you need many downloadable files per content item ?
(just asking some info the usage scenario)

but please note: implementing something that is uncommon or rare (useful to only a few cases), it is unlikely to happen,

ok, maybe if most work is already done, then maybe it could be at some future version

but now we have other urgent priorities

Hello ggppk,

i appreciate your fast answers 8-) ! I have just following scenario about different people publishing content with downloads and image and should not see other people downloads or images and should not have a long list of existing downloads mixed with images to look over. Maybe they have one or more downloads to one content e.g. item. For the images it works well in different folders and i just wondered, if this would be possible to files too?

So this is a very common use of a content management system, i am sure many people are working like, what do you think?

Thank you and best regards, Macjoomla

Hello

1. about not seeing other's people files,
-- users cannot do that unless they have "View all Files" (in Component Permissions), by default only admins have this, check to make sure your users do not have it

2. about users seeing all their files (in the popup file management), well they can search by title/description or other filters,)

-- but the files are only meant for a single item, then i can understand why putting the in a folder per item will make it more convenient

-- but you will loose some advantages, adding them to the DB, gives you:

a. hit counting

b. can assign access levels
e.g. users can select access level for file
= who can download their file

c. easy searching for administrators in backend, and accounting, e.g. which items use the file, etc

d. re-usabilty of files (ok you don't need this as you said)

e. other that i forget ?

Hello ggppk, thanks again for your answer! Dit not know point one, thank you for pointing this out! Just thought, if i can see it, all can see it. Have much to learn about flexicontent ;)

So this behaviour would be not as bad for pictures too, but then i wonder, if you could at least store images in different locations then files? Or even different locations for each added image or file field?

Best regards, Macjoomla

Hello

for making images galleries,
we recommend using image(/gallery) field in
- "folder mode"
- and not "DB-mode",

avoid DB-mode for images !!
unless you really need re-usable images
