import data from csv

So my problem was that when importing first into Joomla core articles, I was not indicating a category in the bulk uploader. Now it is clear that you must indicate the Flexicontent section when using the bulk uploader. Once I moved them to the Flexicontent section, it found them immediately...

now the issue is how to import my other 30 fields that are part of my database for each article record - I am creating a movie app and their are 30+ fields for each record.

Ken's solution only works in those cases where there's a standard set of com_content fields.
For custom content types we need a more comprehensive solution.
