Front end data entry questions

I've just been looking at FlexiContent/FlexiAccess to see if it can provide what I need. I am developing a company intranet using Joomla!, and one feature I need is a staff in/out board, which is a list of staff showing whether in the office or somewhere else. This needs to be maintained by each user.

So I need some custom fields, text boxes and drop-downs, that the user can update directly through the front-end.

Questions are:
1) I assume I need FlexiAccess to enable user front-end data entry?

2) Is FlexiAccess working now? - there are bad reviews at JED

3) Can FlexiContent fields be 'mapped' to existing Joomla! fields?
Eg I'd want to use Joomla! user name fields along with new custom fields.

Thanks

you can actived font-end data entry without flexiaccess
flexiaccess can add group and user rules and extra feature on all entry of joomla component

flexiacess work fine but it's acl component not realy simply to use but powerfull ... if you have a good structured project

-preview of content
-plugin for notification for edition
-new systeme of filtering
....
code.google.com/p/flexicontent/source/list

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.
Like the our support? (for a bug-free FC, despite being huge extension) Like the features? Like the ongoing development and future commitment to FLEXIcontent?

Hi - thanks for your reply. One of your comments:

I could not see how to do this - I created a new drop-down field and I can display it using a new template. But it does not allow user selection from the front end, only from the admin end.
