Ok the problem you experience is due to a data inconsistency in one or more of your items
e.g. language property is empty

This could have been caused due to front-end (or backend) item form which due to many improvement recently it became buggy.

We have integrity checks to catch such inconsistencies but some case may not be catched

So in r1378,

I have fixed minor bugs (a) in frontend item submit form, not adding main category in categories table when categories override is enabled in the menu, (b) fixed/improved check for empty language property in items

I will make a build soon, which you can test if it catches you inconsistency, otherwise i will need login to track this down
