How to change the favourites page

I'd like to change the Favourites page that is created with the menu link. Basically, I'd like it to be a normal content page so that I can add some helpful information on how to add and remove items from the user's favourite list (but still display their list of favourites on the page too).

Any suggestions on where to start?

Can you expand on that a little? I'd like to add some content to the favourites page to give some explanation to the user on how to work the favourites feature.

On my site, I've created a menu item using the "Favourites" type. It works as intended but I was just looking to improve the page. It's bland and doesn't give the user much information on how to use the feature. I wanted to include a screenshot showing where find the favourite button and some information on how to use the feature.

There is no template for the Favorites page, but since it is a view you can use an output override (a.k.a template override, layout override).
Basically what you do is copy the view layout file, and make your changes to that copy.

That is the workaround for replicating frontpage or featured.

The Favorites page is different for each user.
It is their individually selected favorites.
And it is displayed using the favourites view.
