Why are uploaded images stored in "secured"?

I have to come back with this issue. I need to find a way to prevent the images being stored in the "secured" folder.

I have a field of the type "image" and every uploaded image gets stored in the "secured" folder which makes no sense at all since the access level for the field is public. What do I need to do?

Hello,
For new image/gallery fields, you can use the "folder mode" to store images in item_id_field_id folder

Thx, but where do I specify which mode the field must use?

It is in field configuration of image/gallery field

Which revision do you have ?

is the one i see in your signature?

please install latest, but NOTE that you MUST NOT change this parameter for fields that already have images in DB mode

Regards

I updated to the latest version. After installing r1600 all images handled by the image field are gone in the front end. This is a disaster. I found the new option and it is set to "Reusable (DB mode)".

It is not the first time that content disappears after an update.

Just downgrade to previous version,

It is not the first time that content disappears after an update.

e.g.if you have a new parameter that will default to a different behavior than previous behavior,

we try not to have this happen, anyway considering the complexity and size of the component, problems are relatively a few and usually are about new features, and all bugs have been short-lived

In general we have trade-offs, if new features or bug-fixes are not worth it,
then you can choose not upgrade, even highly paid software comes with incompatibility or bugs.

If i had refused looking at bugs (i speak of bugs not "needed" features), i could understand you complaining, but you get this component for free, and free bug support (even incompatibilities that are not fault of FLEXIcontent)

If your site cannot have any downtime, then it worth spending some time to
(a) make site backups
(b) and/or create a copy of the site to test upgrades
(c) employ a part time developer for it, that he/she would handle backups and upgrades of software, custom development of code etc

-- then you not have any worries !!

also try to imagine my frustration every time people take for granted everything this free software offers

-- about images gone, i don't believe that your images are deleted, URLs must be wrong for some reason, you could help us by giving some easy information:

did you check the URL of images to see what is wrong?

(just do a view page source on the page)

-- do you have some custom template that is outputting your images, maybe it has relevant changes.

without any information or even an online URL to see this, we cannot know what is wrong

Sincere Regards

Thank you for the extensive reply. I am well aware that FC comes for free and I am full of respect for the developers who take on such an immense task and for sure I do not want to see you frustrated by my comment.

I am not complaining. I was just a bit disappointed from that set back. Of course I do backup the site prior to updating but not updating or downgrading is simply no option.

I had no time left to research what exactly went wrong. I just went trough all items with the image field and uploaded the images again. I don't think a bug report would have been of any use to you or other users since it is only a backwards incompatibility.

Thank you again for your time and effort.

Yes,
but giving us the broken URL at the time that images were not displayed, would give information us to what happened

or it could be that image field was working in "folder mode"
but checked both default value for code and default value for edit form of field configuration and it defaults to DB-mode
