1. Templates have multiple layout , currently we have
- item layout to display "Content items"
- category layout to display "Content item Lists"

you edit layout graphically to drag and drop fields that you want to display

2. You need to Edit a (Content) "Type" assign and at the bottom of edit for assign an template (=its item layout)

3. You need to Edit a Category and assign to it a template (=its category layout)

About parameter fields: prefix/suffix/separator/open tag/close tag , i think description is clear

- prefix is before a field value
- suffix is after a field value
- separator is between field values

- open tag is before -ALL- field values
- close tag is after -ALL- field values

e.g.
prefix: <li>
suffix: </li>
separator: space
open tag: <ol>
open tag: </ol>

Will make an number list out of field values:
1. valueA
2. valueB
3. valueC

About plugin triggering
- enable triggering parameter
- select none or some of the Content plugin
- enable remove space parameter

If you read the (English) descriptions of parameters you will see that most of them are very good
