I guess we can keep the existing parameters but also

add a parameter "Custom HTML" for message body which will include HTML and also replacements e.g. {item_newcats} , {item_oldcats} , {item_title} etc

Currently this is hardcoded via function:
function sendNotificationEmails(...)

in admin/models/parentitemclass.php

Yup many components have that feature. Also would be easier to Share templates between us.

Thanks.

Yes it gives more flexibility, idea is this:
we will add a parameter to enter HTML , and offer replacement , including by default :
__body_according_to_params__

thus maintaining compatibility with parameters in an intuitive way

-- This method a parameter to enter HTML with replacements, was used recently for related items, related items backlinks.

It is in the TODO ...

Sure. If you can even put something like {item->id} in the template, then we can share pretty crazy templates :D

we can do whatever we want with custom fields :D

This is low priority
will do in next version

if it is real important then hack the PHP file ... and make a note of it

It is backend model file, thus you cannot use a template override of any kind
