What does the "Choose HTML version" option do?

What does the "Choose HTML version" option do? was created by hede

In the Type setup one has the option "Choose HTML version" between xhtml and HTML5. I would expect that either item.php or item_html5.php gets loaded, but I seem to get always item.php. Or am I misunderstanding that option?

yes, enabling this will load the _html5.php of the template

which template are you talking about ?

I made a copy of the blog type to do a custom type and there I customized the item.php. Now always the item.php gets loaded no matter what I choose in this option.
