Hello

you are asking how to make a gallery with FLEXIcontent ?

please create a new image (/gallery) field,

the image field when it is multi-valued it acts as a gallery, there are several JS galleries available for testing what it better suits you

the parameter name for selecting gallery is in red v2.1.2:

Gallery Layout
(Desktop clients)

Hello

basic ? nothing is basic about the FLEXIcontent image/gallery field

you are comparing FLEXIcontent field to a stand-alone gallery, but even in this case FLEXIcontent image/gallery field may come short only in lacking a specific JS gallery that you have seen and only there

1. a big benefit of using FLEXIcontent image/gallery field is its close integration with content (editable in item form along with other content)

2. editing (adding) image/gallery field is a very powerful offering 2 modes
- DB re-usable (with usage accounting in file manager and item tracking)
- folder-mode (isolate image per item-field pair in a folder)

3. it offers features that only standalone galleries would offer,
- original image access control
- smart thumbnail caching (creating thumbnails only if configuration changes)
- watermarks
- other features (see parameters) !

4. image field can be set to text searchable (title and description) in FLEXIcontent search view along with other fields, or searchable as a standalone text filter too

5. about display the parameters of displaying are meant to be unified across galleries, you speak of multibox, maybe you could try using
- elastislide
- photoswipe
(future) TODO: add gallery specific parameters (now only the common one exist)
(future) TODO: use carousel/slider (available as module template for items) in image field too

-- if none suits your needs then you may use a standalone gallery component and link to it

Regards
