Hello,

I need a sort of enhanced category list than in normal joomla, with image and some more details of each article. So I searched and found your component flexi content.

Actually I would like to add some fields to each article: image, room size, room capacity. These 3 more fields should be displayed in category list additional to title of course.

Before trying and testing maybe hours, I would like to ask some pre sale questions, if this task can be done with it and if yes, how ;)

.. flexicontent is free .. no pre sale question  !
after take some time to read FAQ and tutorial !
www.flexicontent.org/documentation/faq.html
www.flexicontent.org/documentati ... rials.html
after
1 create a type (choose blog template)
2 create your fields for you type
3 create your category (choose blog template)
4 in template administration (flexicontent part) use category view of blog and drag and drop you field wanted !

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.

Hello

basic usage is this FAQ article:
Starting with FLEXIcontent (Basic usage)

NOTE: if you want to display the INTRO and FULL images that you had added via JOOMLA article form , then please note that support of these is being added in v2.1.3 final, soon to come out, so you can use them yet.

Thank you both for your replies.

I installed flexi content and tried to setup everything like described in your tutorials and answers. But I experienced a lot of issues :(

Flexi content changed backend language partially to english (these parts that are affected by flex content) and I did not find how to change that again to my language. So I ended up in a confusing mix language backend.

Similar issue in frontend. But frontend is even more confusing, not only because of language mix, but also because of a lot of details that should not be visible in front end. Worst of all is, that I can edit everything in front end now, without being logged in? Is this really your default setting to let public edit existing articles and add new ones?

Last not least I could not find how to display articles of a certain category in list view. They are displayed like blog view only.

I am confused and frustrated a little bit. Seems like too complicated to me.

I already read all 6 tutorials, but none of them explain category layout or article list. And that's one of the issues I have. I just want a handy list like joomla does native in category view but add some fields to that list. But instead it generates a blog layout (category). And it also changed my previous global article view settings completely, though I set "use global" everywhere. But these global settings seemed to be changed by flexi content. Why?

Content flex may able to do that task, but it is not very intuitive to me to handle and I cannot find sufficient documentation. Moreover flexi content changes a lot of joomla views in front end and back end so that things are a lot more complicated and more work from that point even if I do not use flexi content for the rest. I love joomla for being easy to use and to handle, but now article (item) and category manager has become very complicated through flexi content.

1. FLEXIcontent uses its own parameters that exist in FLEXIcontent component settings

- please configure default behavior in FLEXIcontent component settings, this applies to ANY other component that you may install

2. For language, component is big and we have no control over the translator, nor is the translator paid to do the translation, (maybe you can join in transifex.org and help with the translation work)
because we do not speak every language we do not know if translation is good or update to date in ALL cases

in this case we recommend that you use English in the backend

3. Here is what to do for simple usage:
(For basic usage do not edit any files !!)

a. assign a template to your category
(do this in category edit form)

b. Go to template manager and drag and drop field into the category layout of the template that you have selected

c. note that some template besides template positions (e.g. FC 'blog' template), have template parameter, you can find these at the bottom right of the category edit form

4. Please note that FLEXIcontent is built for many different web-sites and it has many options and parameters, most people find it perfect for their needs and intuitive, i can understand that it may not be suitable for your needs, we take no offense (we do our best to improve UI of it even more)

5. if you want to uninstall
- please first install v2.1.3 r1857
which fixes an uninstall issue
- and then uninstall it

6. almost all problems that you may have are due to configuration e.g. frontend editing uses Joomla ACL, have checked who can edit what in component permissions, yes in FLEXIcontent component permission

the large number of parameters that this component has make it possible to create many different sites without being a developer.

7. Finally to answer questions about behavior is not always easy because we do not know your configuration,

try making a single specific question about a template or specific feature, the more specific you are, the easier it will be to answer you

e.g. ask us how to add FLEXIcontent image/gallery field to a category that uses the 'presentation' template

also if you do not like blog, try using the 'presentation' template for your categories

thank you for appreciating years of our time spent on this free component, and please note that answering this forum takes great effort

Regards

Hi,
I always appreciate it when people spent time to develop great things, moreover if they do it free.

But I do not like to get forwarded to tutorials or documentations that do not answer my questions.

Moreover I appreciate sufficient documentation. I do not think, that my need is too special or too unusual, quite the contrary, I think that it is a common function, probably even basic function, of a cck. So maybe it would be a good idea if you provided some more tutorials, explaining all basic functions and common tasks, such as creating product catalogues. This is just a feedback, no offense.

After 3 days of testing and trying your component it is clear to me, that I do not like it. That's no offense either. I believe you that your component is very powerful and that many customers like it. But it does neither meet my needs nor my taste. It is too complex and too rigoros how it influences joomla core. I prefer more gentle components that do not disturb the whole look and feel of joomla.

Thank you anyway for your time and efforts.

Hello

thank you for trying FLEXIcontent ;)

for particular sites you do not need FLEXIcontent or any other CCK,

e.g. for building a 20 articles website, (and depending on its needs too) FLEXIcontent or any other CCK maybe an overkill, you may do using content plugins placed inside the description, and other 3rd party modules

- for sites requiring more advanced management FLEXIcontent is very much needed and will make site management easier after initial setup time and learning curve

maybe you check it out future versions in a few months, our features enhancement and UI improvements is a continued work, (e.g. only user-group configuration is missing from FC to make it an excellent choice for subscriptions site (you could use together with any subscription component) )

about backend translation, it is the size of FLEXIcontent that makes translation work be a little behind, e.g. on average we add 1-2 new language string per day

Best Regards
