Show total items from all subcategories

Hello..

Im working in a new project and I have a lot of subcategories, and I want show the total of items form all of child (is possible in category use this, but not in all sub).

Something like:

Parent (5 items)
- Chhild 1 (2 items)
- Child 3 (3 items)

So, "Parent" count all of the items in is childs.

For performance and for all level ... impossible to much request sorry

I do not suggest a feature, just want to know if I can apply to my project?

we disable it for performance ... you need to hack FLEXIcontent

existing FLEXIcontent version can be configure to do exactly that

1. your category view can list sub-category items of ALL sub-levels
2. your subcategories will show item count of ALL sub-levels (unlike Joomla !! which does not do this)


Just upcoming version has big performance benefits in large sites, in regards to counting sub-category items (all levels) and also considering ACCESS levels and publish up down, etc



about upcoming version:

both show a category with 4,500 items with total subcategory items around 13,000

FC : Application 1.604 seconds (+1.245); 13.68 MB (+6.195) - afterDispatch

Joomla: Application 20.736 seconds (+20.399); 63.08 MB (+55.590) - afterDispatch

FLEXIcontent is also
1) creating an Alpha-index out of ALL items
2) counting ALL sub-level items , joomla only current sub-category level

also notice the memory usage, just the above runs depend on memory given to mysql server in the above case it was 450MBs

no caching (except for FC XML templates files, but these almost never change, stupid to reparse them )
-- so both cases with caching disabled
-- and no "MEMORY" DB tables used ... although that is not bad to do for temporary data


PLEASE don't use latest SVN repository revision yet, it maybe broken or buggy, plus it does not contain all performance enhancements

also some performance enhancements maybe unstable, and maybe scrapped, or used partially, we will see


in your case you want sub-category display to be 2 levels ?

now we only have 1st level of sub-categories !

Yes, in my case right now, I want calculate all of the articles in two subcategories, and show that count on parent.
