How do you get the custom fields to display in article?

I added a custom field and filled out the custom field but only the title and description show up.

i guess
1. you have already created a field and assigned it to a content and
2. edit an item and added some value to the field, right?

if you have not done the above, then please see this FAQ article:
Starting with FLEXIcontent (Basic usage)

If you have done 1 and 2 then

a. go to "Types" and check with template you content type is using e.g. you are using content type "article" with template "default"

b. go to "Templates", and find template row "default", click to edit the "ITEM layout" then drag and drop your new fields into a template position

c. then view your item in frontend


for category view, do similar check in "Categories" Backend Manager which template your category is using then goto templates manager and edit the "CATEGORY layout"

1. I made a copy of the default template and called it "myTemplate"

2. I assigned the custom content type to "myTemplate"

3 I went into myTemplate" item layout and dragged the user fields.

4. Save and cleared cache, but it still shows the default template style.

in each item you can override the default template of the content type, please make sure that your item is using the default content type template, then click the preview button to preview the item in the frontend,

also what is the type of the fields that are not shown, all custom fields are not shown or some specific type ?

1. the item itself is not set to use the default template of the content type 'mytemplate',

the item is overriding the template and is trying to use the FLEXIcontent template 'default'

did you submit item from frontend with template selection disabled?
can you edit the item in backend and change it to use the default content type template ?




2. for security concerns,

so that frontend users cannot force item to use undesirable template that show more or less content of that desire by administator

e.g. cannot tamper with template parameter in item form, e.g. via firebug ! , or cannot set an undesiable template via a URL ilayout parameter,


due to the above the content type configuration at the top, there is a multi-select parameter:
"Allowed templates",

in there you select the allowed templates of the content type,

is 'mytemplate' in the allowed templates ?
or you can leave this blank to allow all
