Dear FLEXIcontent team:

I hope this message finds you well. I have a difficult situation that I need assistance from your expert community in solving. It may be a very challenging question to answer though.

As you may have noted from before, the site I am setting up will need to eventually use a comparison feature that will compare fields in similar items.

In addition, to complete my vision, I am attempting to do some more complicated things: things that I am not certain are in your plan to add in to FLEXIcontent already.

In summary, this is what I am attempting to do: I am attempting to set up a standard Joomla site with a few differences that are making completing the site problematic. Here are those differences:

1. Each category of Joomla article needs to have a group of custom fields associated with it, such that any new article created in that category will automatically have those custom fields. <I know FLEXIcontent does this already>.
2. The custom fields are not that complex: around 6-10 numerical drop-down select from fields, with an equivalent number of text fields. <FLEXI does this already>.
3. These fields should be viewable in a table format, ideally with some visual styling to set them apart from the standard part of the article. <Does FLEXIcontent have the ability to do this?>
4. These fields should be read only from the article view, and fillable by anyone with article creation privileges. <Flexi does this today>
5. These fields should be able to be combined along with links to the articles and pictures in a table, linked from a menu item, that shows all of them in the category. <Can FLEXIcontent do this?>
6. There should be the ability to add calculation fields as well that can take the site user's input and multiply it by the existing numerical values entered by the article author to result in a list of calculated values that can be searched upon. This could be used for prioritization weighting if using a dropdown, as well as for taking the user's specific values and calculating results based on the user's input and the fields in the FLEXIcontent items.
7. Ideally the input values for the fields in each category, entered by the user, should be stored in the user's profile so that they don't have to reenter those values every time they wish to see the results of their calculations.

I have looked for weeks for an extension that could accomplish these requirements, with no success. I have tried separate CCKs like K2, which do not use the standard article or user tables and components (thus failing to work properly with other extensions and themes). I have tried things like SEBLOD, which are extremely complex and do not seem to have what I need anyway. I have also tried solutions that add custom fields to the article component itself, but those have not had the ability to do calculations.

FLEXIcontent is the closest tool that I've found to provide this level of capability. However, it seems to be lacking a few things that are critical, specifically the ability of user's to prioritize fields and get weighted values calculated.

Would it be possible to set up custom development to solve this last piece of the puzzle for me? If so, how would we arrange the contract and obtain an estimate?

Thanks,
Eric

Hello

basically FLEXIcontent will cover your needs BUT you will need a custom-developed field type to achieve the field behaviour that you describe,

These FAQ articles have relevant information that any Joomla developer can use:
- How to Duplicate a Flexicontent Field to create a new Field Type
- Using the raw value of a field inside a template file or inside a new custom field type
