SEF trouble again: category and sub-category

Hi,
I have the following problem. In a product catalogue I have a menu item pointing to a category view. The second menu level also point to a category view, to sub-categories of the parent category. The third level category view is not linked to a menu and lists items from the forth level sub-category. If you click on one of this items the article looses the connection to the menu.

Real live example:
link to a sub-category
www.servoflo.com/pressure-sensor ... owest.html
If you click on "Differential Pressure Sensors for under 4 H2O" another sub-category view opens. If you click on "Low Differential Pressure Transmitter AI179" which is assigned to the sub-sub-catagory the menu disappears and the URL changes completly.

I hope my description makes enough sense :D

Hello

the reason is because the menu item is selected according to
- parent category
and not according to
- parent category / parent category

how is J3 handling this?

can you do this ?:
-- create 2 similar menu item that point to Joomla category view for:
.../lowest/
/low/

and test ?
(FLEXIcontent allows usage of Joomla category view, thus you can test)

I have tested this with a Joomla 3 installation. It seems that Joomla is doing it parent category / parent category.

Hello

so you mean

-- prefer the current menu item if it a parent category that contains a sub-tree path that leads to the item,
over a category menu item that is direct parent of the item

- is not the category menu item that is direct parent of the item the prefered menu item ?

It is a little bit different.

Here is the situation:
Menu:
Code:
- Parent category view link - Sub-cat view menu link 1 - Sub-cat view menu link 2 - Sub-sub-cat view menu link 1 - Sub-sub-cat view menu link 2 - List of sub-categories (no menu item!) - List of sub-categories and articles that are assigned to the category above (no menu item!)
This is a menu link to a category view that contains the subcategory links: www.servoflo.com/pressure-sensor ... owest.html . Clicking on a subcategory link leads to: www.servoflo.com/pressure-sensor ... ntial.html . This view has no menu link anymore.
Up to this navigation the menu is active. Clicking on an item in the list has the result that the navigation tree is not longer active and the item looses all assignments to the menu and modules because the URL changes completely.
One solution is to create category view links to all sub-categories, but this is complicated and lots of work!

Hello

i think i understand you now,

you mean we should select the menu item of the closest parent category out of the parent category tree

e.g.

cat1 (menu item with menu alias /cat1/
sub-cat2 (menu item with menu alias /cat2/)
sub-cat3 (no menu item, category ID 55)
sub-cat4 (no menu item)
item1 (with id 444)

so the SEF url should be:

/cat1/cat2/55-cat3/444-item1
