How to override/hardcode canonical URL

Hi,

Is there a way to define canonical URL for an item?

Consider the following scenario: I have two items with slightly different parameters and URL links, but the body is the same and thus required canonical URL tag to prevent negative rating by search engine. The normal FC canonical tag function only deals with multiple appearances of single item, but does not seem to allow overriding the canonical tag.

Thanks

Hello

i am thinking that this cancels the purpose of the canonical URL
- still i see why this would be needed

now finishing v3.0.15
- little time so i have not tested this:
did you try to create 2 menu items , that point to the same item ?

Let's say that I intentionally create two distinct items that have the same description, but different other fields (for example links, tags, etc...)

They may be different items as far as user is concerned, but Google will probably consider them duplicate content. I need to set canonical URL tag on one of the items to make google bots happy.

Haven't tried playing around with menu items yet.

Hello

for menu items that have the parameter:
"Canonical tag"

e.g. for category-like menu items

you can enabled "pameters override" and disable the parameter
- thus the current URL will be considered as being the rel-canonical tag
