what will be the simpler ?

hello
I have some items with 
text, pdf, image, HD image, and so on, in some categories site/alpha/beta
so the item will be site/alpha/beta/item1
and for instance pdf will be named : item1.pdf and stored in images/alpha/beta/item1/item1.pdf
is it better to create an import csv file with the path for the field
or better to find a way to say in the field that the path is images/$category/$subcategory/$name_of_item/$name_of_item.pdf ?

if ... you manage to import file data then you will have the benefits of a file field

Otherwise you can just create a TEXT field (make it invisible in item form) that uses a custom viewing layout to display the file
plugins/flexicontent_fields/text/tmpl/value_custompdfdisplay.php
and select "custompdfdisplay" as viewing layout in field configuration
