How to make SEF URLs?

2 months 2 weeks ago - 2 months 2 weeks ago #83017 by amityweb
I have created a Product Type.
The URL to them is:
mysite.com/content_page/item/2-my-product-alias

But how can I make it the following, because this is what is normally required on websites:
mysite.com/product/my-product-alias

Thanks

hello
1 in flexicontent 4 go to admin config and seo tab you have an option to remove item in url
2 create a link to your categorie (hidden menu)
3 now you can use this menu item id to generate url

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.

Thank you very much, but I still have a couple of issues...

1 in flexicontent 4 go to admin config and seo tab you have an option to remove item in url
[Laurence] OK I have done this and this works, thanks

2 create a link to your categorie (hidden menu)
I do not use categories, but I have created a Category link to "Uncategorised"

3 now you can use this menu item id to generate url
I do not understand this part. How to generate URL from ID? Should it not be automatic?

There is an extra step I took, which is in the hidden menu I renamed the Alias to product.

I am nearly there but after steps 1 and 2 I have root in the URL as follows:
mysite.com/product/root/my-product-alias

2 you need to create a link to your category to avoid root

But I have link to the category as stated above... in the flexicontent hidden menu, I added a link with alias "product" and linked it to the Uncategorized category, because all my products are Uncategorized.

But /root/ is still in the URL.

I created a category called Products and assigned a Product to it. I then changed the hidden menu to link to that category.

This made no difference, the URL is still:
mysite.com/product/root/my-product-alias

The category product is not listed in the URL. The first product you see in the URL is the alias of the hidden menu link. I would not want category in the URL instead of root because that would make the URl have two product in it: mysite.com/product/product/my-product-alias

I do not use categories either so we should not have to create them.

All I want is a product to be displayed on URLs like this and really really dont understand why this is so hard to do??
mysite.com/product/my-product-alias

Thanks

Hello

You could create 1 menu per item time
e.g. for Product Item type create a menu item with menu item alias "product"

Make the menu item point to a e.g. an FC category  "Product"

then in types manager under the SEO tab , you need to set 2 parameters
1. select the above menu item as "default" menu item for the item type
2. then also set the menu item to be tried before the item's main category

then you should be able to get this:

mysite.com/product/my-product-alias

Thanks for your help, but it still shows /root/ in the URL. Removing /root/ shows a 404.

Hello

root is the alias of the top level menu item with ID 1 , and it should not appear (regardless of configuration)

if you create link to other components do you also get it in the URLs ?
