frontend upload > image field ignores "Allowed extensions"

hi there, 

i have a website (live) with frontend image upload (~ like craigslist for my local music school)
there i use a dedicated custom image field. it ignores its "Allowed extensions" (bmp,gif,jpg,jpeg,png), so people upload pdfs. 

How can I resolve that error? 
I might have installed a beta, related to [ www.flexicontent.org/forum/20-general-su...stopped-working.html ]
I am happy to PM a live url to test.
