Variable Number of Custom Fields in Content Article

Is it possible to have a VARIABLE number of custom fields in a single article?

I need a custom submission type that includes a certain number of text fields (all required), but depending on the value of a variable, the number of custom text fields would be variable in number, from 1 to any number. The submission form would need to have a text field for each of the custom fields (and additionally, the ability to display and edit the fields after submission).

Explaining what exactly this would be used for would take way too much time, but it would be helpful for what I'm trying to do. Basically, present the user with a different number of text boxes to fill out depending on a database variable.

It sounds like your infinitely customizable/extensible CCK might be up to the task (I haven't looked into how your tables are setup, but it sounds like your setup is perfect; I want to avoiding hacking the joomla core if possible to make upgrades simpler).

Is there any way to accomplish this?
