Default Time Zone: UTC?

Hi again,

Busy times... ;)

When saving an item, flexicontent always save in the database with UTC time.

We need to use UTC -1
Despict the way I configure PHP or MySQL the result is always the same. Time saved with UTC.

Is this a Flexi default behavior?
If yes, how can we overcome this issue?

Thanks in advance for any help :D

you can use override time in joomla configuration and use same for field

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.
Like the our support? (for a bug-free FC, despite being huge extension) Like the features? Like the ongoing development and future commitment to FLEXIcontent?

In short it is better not to do it.

Joomla also stores UTC, and in general all DBs recommend saving UTC ...

Instead it is better to do this
1. adjust you SQL queries to achieve desired result e.g. using DATE_ADD() function
2. format the output of the displayed date to be displayed in desirable timezone

Thanks ggppdk I can live with that.
But I cant understand why the possibility to add time offset to joomla time, long asked feature, its so difficult for joomla devs?

For me this is really funny

The offset can be used when date is displayed, not sure why this would be necessary for DB too,

it is better to only store UTC and do the customization display at PHP when displaying,

I agree... but still cant understand why is so difficult to implement an offset as joomla parameter!?

As example, I preferred to not mess around with code and change my time zone to Atlantic/Azores(UTC -1) and I know that I've to change again when Daylight Saving Time changes to summer time.
If you ask me, joomla devs don't care a dam(with all my respect) if this is user friendly or not.

Of course you can store non UTC-0 in DB but it would create complications ...

Storing UTC in DB is cleaner, it is like using a single character set in your pages (utf8), it allows to have a consistent behaviour of the stored data and avoiding confusing, (you do not need to know what timezone is)

so it should be the responcibility of application to display it in the right timezone e.g. different timezone for every visitor ...

In FLEXIcontent date field this configurable , so you can use it to store, UTC+0 or non-UTC datetimes (= exactly what is typed with no conversion)

I understand that and why the UTC should be used as default time zone.
My problem in Joomla is: if I want to offset the display of the time zone I haven't any means to do it without messing with the core code.

Hello,

1. About date field you can use as you please, just configure it as you need ,

2. About created/modified/publish-up/publish-down dates these are stored like standard Joomla does (as UTC) ,

Where ? and how do you output it?
via a FLEXIcontent template?
via a 3rd party extension?
