search needs 4 letters - really?

In the options of the FC search menu item I read "- word is less than 4 characters (default for MySql DBs)". I dont think this is true, because the Joomla search returns results with 3 characters in the search box and so does the FC search module. Hence my question: Is that statement obsolete?

cheers

But this is just a description , it is not the actually value of your system ! it says usually or something

- If you visit backend search index you will see the real value e.g. 3. (only once as a notice message)

- if in frontend you search for a word that is too small you will get a message that it was ignored e.g. you search a word of 2 letters

Also about messages and warnings to the user
- if you go to category view you will see improvements in text search

e.g. you can use auto-complete for multiple words in text search

e.g. if you search multiple words and a word ignored (it is too common or does not exist) you will get a notice message

What do you mean "it is just a description"? So 4 is not correct? Then what is correct? The search index table has the same warning: "NOTE : Database limits minimum search word length (ft_min_word_len) to 4". So I still wonder why the Joomla search can handle 3 chars but the FC search needs 4?

In the search menu item I set 3 but that does not matter I still get the 4 chars message in the front end.

Exactly even if you set a lowed limit than DB allows it will make no difference, the limit via parameter can only be greater equal than the one imposed by DB

I dont understand anything ... Does FC or MySQL need the 4 characters? Do I have to change something in phpMyAdmin to allow the search for 3 characters? I am still confused because the Joomla search can handle 3 characters without any change to the DB.

1. The database has a low limit that can not be overridden e.g. index 3 letters words

2. so you can set via FLEXIcontent parameter a limit 3 or or more , if you set a limit lower than 3 it will be ignored

I thought so but as I wrote already I set it to 3 and still get in the front end: "Search term must be a minimum of 4 characters and a maximum of 200 characters.".

And I still wonder why the FC description in the back end says "Please note these reasons for some results not being included: - word is less than 4 characters (default for MySql DBs)...". So where does this "4 characters" come from?

This means that your DB limits to 4

the fact that you get results with 3 letter does not meant that the 3-letter words are used in the text search

new messaging will be more clear (you can see the new messaging in category view, it will be added to search view too)

Sorry but I still dont get this. When I use the Joomla Search I get:

"Search term must be a minimum of 3 characters and a maximum of 20 characters."

When I use the FC Search I get:
"Search term must be a minimum of 4 characters and a maximum of 200 characters."

So it CAN NOT be a restriction from the DB because Joomla is able to search for 3 letter words. How do I get FC to work with 3 letter words too?
