How Can I add existing public_html/images on to my article?

Hi there,

I am trying to upload images to the article I have just created.

How can I upload existing joomla images on my server to the flexi content?

I do not want to:
-Create a new item
- Select images
-upload them again (upload/ browse the images on my computer then upload).

Since I want to point these images to the joomla/images folder, I will not need to "upload" them again (they have already there inside joomla/images).

Is it also possible to upload all images on to one folder called 'images'when I need to upload it from my computer?

Flexicontent has /images/stories/flexicontent/item_100_field_18.

Is this search engine friendly? How can I solve this issue?

Thank you.

Hello

1. about you second question regarding the path:
"if it is SEO friendly"

it is just OK,
but that is just the default,
you can change it since it is configurable:

for new site, just change the parameter:
Thumbnails folder (it is at section "Thumbnail Creation" of the field configuration)

for existing site, which already has images, before changing the parameter, go to Cpanel or Plesk and move / rename the folder at the desired location

2. About using existing images, already on server:
- either re-upload them 1 at a time
- edit item and use FTP or Cpanel or some Joomla extension to copy / move them to:
/images/stories/flexicontent/item_100_field_18

Thank you for your reply.

Is this only for the image thumbnails? How about the actual image?

Can I use public_html/images as a thumbnail creating path as well as the actual images path?

From SEO point of view, I do not want to create all those folders for each item.

I want to keep them in one folder.

either re-upload them 1 at a time
- edit item and use FTP or Cpanel or some Joomla extension to copy / move them to:
/images/stories/flexicontent/item_100_field_18

I want to be able to browse to public_html/images and click on that image inside the article manager(flexicontent/image gallery field). At the moment I can only upload files to the flexicontent folder.

Plus item_100_field_18 is where I get confused.

I cannot explain this to my client that it is the correct way of creating images.

THank you.

Hello

1. suggest to client ? why would ask client to use FTP/etc ?

he/she should use the item form interface, i suggested the use of PLESK for moving / renaming the folder, and FTP for maybe uploading initial creation of a lot of content
-- about uploading e.g. a ZIP, or adding a progress bar to upload, yes we will be adding such a capability, now there is single image upload only

2. about your question regarding the uploaded images, the
original images are inside:
/images/stories/flexicontent/item_100_field_18/original

and the thumbnails inside:

/images/stories/flexicontent/item_100_field_18

is it possible to change the original image folder to public_html/images so that it does not create folders anymore everytime I create a new item?

Hello

you can change the path to be anything (as we said above it is the parameter "Thumbnail folder")

- about the sub folder, this is used to separate the image uploaded for different items !
... so it is required and furthermore it allows

a. to maintain the uploaded name regardless if you have uploaded same file name for other item

b. separate file per item in disk too, thus easier to manage and locate , since you know the item ID and the field id

c. allows a little faster server response on very large sites, plus it is faster because it has no DB overhead to locate the files

... if you want to put files in same folder, creatge a image / image gallery field in DB-reusable mode (please read the popup description of the MODE parameter)

So with this setting, will I be able to change the default path to public_html/images for the original image?

I dont know how large the site will be in the future...

When you say "larger websites", how many items you are
talking about?

Since I am not sure what the site will be in the future, I may stick to file folder setting instead of the db mode.

What do you think? :)

Thank you.

I addded images via FTP to the particular item.

I have two fields.
1- image gallery
2- image gallery with multiple values allowed.

I can see the image when I click on select image for the first field (it is already uploaded via FTP and I can select the image to continue).

The second image field... Select image/new popup/

I cannot see anything there. Is this normal?

Hello

yes it is normal,

the images are isolated per item+field pair

thus there is a different folder per item_id+field_id
