If you do a "view page source" in the browser, is the image there (e.g. not displayed because link is broken)?

No, I do not see any faulty link / image ... I see nothing there

There are changes some changes to the model too, but this is not the reason it is not working, the newer version introduce some preprocessor variables:
FLEXI_J16GE
FLEXI_ITEMVIEW

and others.

So what you did will not work.
Better wait a few days and upgrade to next nightly build, (instead of patching RC2a with newer files)
