How to limit the category drop-down on a front-end edit form?

I've created a category where I can add items by clicking a button that links through to a menu item that is a create item type. This menu item allows me to limit the category selection to the specific category I want (e.g. News). However when I click the FlexiContent edit button (generated using 'flexicontent_html::editbutton( $item, $item->params )') all categories are available on the form. Is there a way to limit the category selection to just the subcategories of the parent category (e.g. News -> General, News -> Science), etc.?

hello create a menu link type flexicontent > submission (in hidden menu)
check option about category via ACL or with ovrride option in this menu link
go to your category and choose this menu link in the button link option
=> the button will herit all options set in menu link

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.
Like the our support? (for a bug-free FC, despite being huge extension) Like the features? Like the ongoing development and future commitment to FLEXIcontent?

Hello

if you want to limit according to usergroups then configure "create" ACL rule

if you want to limit by types

e.g. you have types:

article
vehicle
announcement

Then go to types manager and edit every type,
and then inside the Authoring TAB,
- you can select which category sub-tree is allowed
- and you can also select if the top category of the choose category sub-tree will be selectable or it will appear as disabled
