File uploader for minigallery field

thanks for testing and feedback,

and the folder mode for image now works with new items too, (problem was that you had to save item before adding images)

Now that the image / image gallery field has very powerful selection and configuration, it can be added with more powerful and attractive presentation galleries, this will make it to really "stand out" ...

adding extra presentation galleries is much easier that the work done for managing /selecting /etc the images ...

I had a field - an image gallery. And I added images to several materials. Then I've changed the field type to a minigallery. When I opened the material to edit, I've got errors

I believe there should be a solution to prevent this behaviour.

changing field to an incompatible type makes no sense,

data are unusable,

so since data are unusable, better delete existing field, and create a new one with same label

It is obvious that data is unusable. But I'm not sure if it is a proper way to handle invalid data.

No,

changing field type is meant for different type of fields that have compatible data,
e.g. when you create a new custom field that customizes an existing one

what is needed is a message:
"Changing field type is meant only for fields that have compatible types, changing to an incompatible type can have unexpected/unspecified results"

The message is a solution at least.

However, image/image gallery and minigallery are supposed to be compatible, aren't they?

they are not compatible, but maybe they can be made ...

1. minigallery is not multi-property (and we will leave it this way for simple cases/usages, that only need image selection with no multiple properties),

but we may add more JS image galleries to the mini-gallery field

2. also note that the hard-stuff in image/image gallery field are done (advanced multi-select, with folder management, while maintaining multiple properties, and other configuration options)

what will follow is more advanced inline/popup or other JS gallery, that will greatly enrich the resulting display of the image !!! e.g. a JS image gallery with pagination and thumbnails while previewing the image, there plenty of JS gallery we can add to the image/image gallery field

It is a pleasure to hear that these changes are coming. In fact we usually end up embedding some jQuery gallery to the field plugin to suit our needs.

Also it might be convenient to be able to select JS gallery script from the list for an each image field.

but it only includes popup galleries,

will add more and depending on the selected gallery the gallery specific parameters will be enabled.
