the news Sitemap only includes items,

-- try enabling expand category links in FLEXIcontent XMAP plugin




-- also this will now include all items, but it should include only recently added or updated items ?

-- Flexicontent is Free but involves a big effort on our part.

That did the trick, thanks!

In case I only need the recent ones, there is an option for controlling to show only the ones with less than x days
