[CHECK for LANGUAGE FILE errors] Language Override in Select Box - Labels not changing

Yes, I've been working with English first and will eventually need French as well. I have been using the Joomla interface for the overrides all this time, but I also opened the language files manually to double check them. They are definitely working properly because translations are working elsewhere in the site, just not these ones for the drop down select box.

I'm really stuck here. We've compared it to another site that has similar setup and everything looks fine. I can't seem to see what I'm missing. Are you able to help further?

but first tell me:

Joomla 3 has a "language override manager" which creates and manage language files where overrides of language strings can be placed:

FRONTEND: language\overrides\en-GB.override.ini
BACKEND: administrator\language\overrides\en-GB.override.ini

These files are edited by J3 language manager, and load by Joomla language loader automatically.

the language string are in the above files ?
