i can not figure out how to make mod_flexicontent showing items from a certain category.

Hello

inside TAB "Select Items" scroll to find "Advanced Filtering" / Category scope

make sure that
- Behaviour is "Static"
- Method is "Include"

then select your category / categories

-- Flexicontent is Free but involves a big effort on our part.

Thanks a lot.
The module looks very nice, but i can figure out how to make it responsive.
It does not look very nice on a mobile device. I enclose picture.

Hello

it is responsive, just the number of columns in the news template is not auto-reduced

just use less columns e.g. 3

Nice approach,
but this way the desktop screen looks too empty with a lot of white space (pic)

it only takes little CSS coding to auto-reduce columns for new module layout

will do in v3.2.2.x

i am reminding you about layout of mod_flexicontent when opened form mobile device - column shown under each other and not as it is now next to each other.
