There is an error. The file to change is:

\plugins\system\nnframework\helpers\assignments\flexicontent.php

By the way, it's working fin now :-)

The assignment of modules to items is working but not to categories.

I tried to test but the author of this component has disabled support for FLEXIcontent v2.0, until it is final.

You have a version for J1.7 in which FLEXIcontent is not disabled?
