HTML in TextArea

Hi,

I have put <ul> and <li> tags in a textarea field but they do not render on the fronend page at all! They display properly in the Edit Item page. if I look at the generated source code they look OK but there must be something happening with css perhaps :

Did you allow html for the field? The default option is no html ....

yes I checked the html option; looking at the template (copy of default) there are embedded UL and LI tags in some of the sections that appear to interfere with our own tags...I edited the template page and then it more or less worked as required.
