I have deleted my previous POSTs, the changes i proposed were effecting only the submit NEW item form.

-- So restore your original form.php

-- The reason the form does not submit is because the categories field has a custom validator class called 'validate-cid' that does not exist in the customized FLEXIcontent javascript validation file.

Goto:
components/com_flexicontent/views/items/view.html.php
find line:
... 'class="inputbox required validate-cid"'.$multiple, true);

and remove the class (change to) :
... 'class="inputbox required "'.$multiple, true);

-- The above is for editing existing items.

-- For submitting new items to multiple categories you can control from the menu item parameters

-- Flexicontent is Free but involves a big effort on our part.
