Sorry to came back with this post, but I migrated with latest flexicontent version (FLEXIcontent version 2.0.1 (r1659)) but since then, I cannot make same effect. I guess that modification has been changed

what about the hack does not work?

1. the option is not respected in frontend ordering
2. the option is not show in category edit form
3. the option does not show to frontend user to select it ?you want this to

Please restore file category.php must be placed in file flexicontent.helper.php

in function buildItemOrderBy()

e.g. to use in universal content module, you only need to edit the mod_flexicontent.xml

A note:
I am not sure that adding ordering by alias is worth it

it is rather uncommon, you said you use it because you want the items that have titles with numbers placed at end , so you enter a custom alias?

yes, as I have only few items beginning with number, just adding zz before alias, and it goes at the end of the list
