Backup of Fields / Fieldset / Field Configuration

hi there,

is there any way of exporting a certain set of fields to reuse them in a later project? i mean the fields themselves, NOT their instances in items.

to clarify:
1) say, in project A, i build a type 'person' with fields 'person-name-', 'person-image' and 'person-birthdate'.
2) i export these fields (or maybe the type)
3) i import these fields into my next project B, along with another fieldset from project C.

would't that be cool? (or did i miss something?)
