Okay, so there is no way to select an author for a page, while in the frontend? Joomla offers this by default so I'm surprised flexi can't tap into that.

Hello

we are talking about frontend form, not the backend

I have checked (J3.4.3), Joomla does not display it and it also clears it:
below i copy the field from article.xml

Code:

			id="created_by"
			name="created_by"
			type="text"
			filter="unset" />

as you can see it has filter="unset"

-- we do allow the form to edit the creation date ('created'), and we have an ACL privelege for this
and Joomla does NOT allow modifing this

about created_by, we can not use the Joomla form element: type="user"
to create the selector in frontend, because it in frontend the user list is not displaed,
we would need a custom form field and a custom user selection listing view
