Sorry, but I can't see any obvious option under "Category (content lists)".
There is only "Display method" and "Link to Item".

Single... That ok
Did you save this configuration and réfresh ?

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.
Like the our support? (for a bug-free FC, despite being huge extension) Like the features? Like the ongoing development and future commitment to FLEXIcontent?

Yes, and as a result the field stopped displaying altogether

I was not sure if the problem reported in the other thread is necessarily related to this one and so I thought it should be addressed separately.

Hello

do you still have issue with this ?

- The correct display for you case is
"Category view" : Display "Single" and not "Single Total"

About field dissappearing, make sure that
- you have not enabled link to URL (if it was previously OFF, then let it be OFF)
- in TAB: "Editting"/ "Image source" make sure that the field is in mode that it was before, e.g. if item form inside the popup selection, you had a button "Toggle Thumbnails" it means that your field was in DB-mode
