Hi,
It's a basic Joomla functionnality, not a FlexiContent improvement.
I'm using J2.5, so it may be different in J3.x, but you can try this :
- In Joomla administration, go to users/users groups
- Here, click on param button on the top right of admin
- The first drop-down list is there to choose in wich group your new users go.
- Save and close
...And that's all
