Flexicontent hooks on standard joomla article to make them any content type you like -- not just article anymore --. So you immediately have the huge benefits to extend Joomla functionality without 'canceling' Joomla itself, and at the same time you compatibility with many modules, plugins etc. Of course there are many other features that Flexicontent has, see the presentation article by Emmanuel.

In general if you want to create a content TYPE that is not is to create with FlexiContent you can do it with other components.
