[Added in r1376] How-to check-in items when logging out

.

There is a Joomla system plug-in which will automatically check-in articles after a specified time period.
This could be helpful for your situation as it could check-in all articles every hour or two which could prevent many cases of, for example, coming back the next day and articles still being checked-out.

Autocheckin plugin (P) (for J2.5)

If you give that a try, please come beck and tells us how it worked out.

Thanks ken,
this is similar to what i have suggested, it checks on every load for checked-out items/modules/menus etc, but has different criteria on which items and when to check-in. The criteria is checked-out time.

What do you think add to FLEXIcontent system plugin such checks:
-- Check is user is still logined?
-- Maximum checked-out time (regardless of user being still logined)

I see that the performance impact will be minimal.
e.g. time check: 99.99% of the page loads, the check will stop at a single query that will not finding any items to check-in

That would be really nice.
This could be another one of those long-time Joomla annoyances that all Joomla users have to deal with – that FLEXIcontent solves.

Ideally the different criteria could be set independently:
- Check-in if user session has expired (or logged-out)
- Check-in after specified period (e.g. 24 hours)

That auto check-in on log-out you linked to is also interesting.

That is how Joomla itself should operate.
There is a onLogoutUser/onUserLogout event, so I guess it may be possible to do in a plug-in.

In r1376, to make it more user friendly and warn user that he/she has locked the record:

I have added check-in icon to items/categories backend management tabs for the user that locked each record, showing an informative message to the user:

Record was locked (e.g. edited) by you (%s) at %s.

Click icon to unlock (check-in) this record. This will allow other users to edit/publish/etc the record.

Alternatively you can unlock this record by clicking save or cancel in record edit form.

Still i think we should implement the auto-checkin too
