Thanks - now the finishpublishing date field is editable but only when in flexiaccess grant permission to the group to publish all items.

-- you mean permission to publish the specific item, not all items (right)?
-- what should be happening is that the publication fields appear (right?)
-- but do not get saved, unless the user has permission to publish the current item (right?)

This is because
(a) the item Database model has checks for form tampering and
(b) i unified code J2.5 / J1.5 and in J2.5 you can not change publish up / down without edit State (publish) privilege

-- what do you think? what should the behavior be?
maybe, i can make all properties configurable via a checkboxes in Frontend item form configuration

The publication properties are:

- Creator (=owner, allow to super admin only?)

- Access Level (who can see your item, allow to editor?)

- Creation date (this should be specially enabled)

- publish up date (allow to editor?)

- publish down date (allow to editor?)

- author alias (a nickname) (allow to editor?)

At the moment if the group has permission to "Publish Own Items" - can't change the finishpublishing date on the item even if the user is the creator of the item(they can change the date, but on save - it reverts to previous date).
If the group has permission "Publish All Items"(for the category) then they can change the date.

They should be able to change the finishpublishing date if the user is creator of the item and settings are "Publish Own Items", or even if they can't publish own items, they still have to be able to set finishpublishing date. Finishpublishing date field is not related to the state of the item(Published, Unpublished, Draft, etc.) right?

My logic is even if you can create an item, but have no permission to change the state(Publish it) you still should be able to set finishpublishing date.

The frontend form allows the user to change item state, if he can publish his/here -own- items?

frontend and backend forms allow to change state, but on save it resets.
It is possible to change own item state in backend - items list - trough the state icon though. Strange
