Okay, I'm sorry I'm being so difficult, but this seems to be exactly what I want, however the page is blank, even without any filters. I'm not sure how to get a menu item to display content without a module to add to the page template.

Hello,

if page is empty of items, then you have entered the value of filter wrongly

e.g. you tried to match the label of the value instead of the actual value

wrong: 19##Somelabel
correct: 19##4

The page is empty of items even if I don't have a filter at all.

Hello,

Did you set to show 0 items per page in component or in category configuration ? or in menu item configuration (will take effect if you enable "override category parameters") ?
