did you try installing any other component ?
e.g.
kunena forum component

etc
does it install properly ?

I could not install Kunena, when I tried install from web, got this error:

Unable to write entry
Warning
JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file
Install path does not exist
Package Install: There was an error installing an extension: com_kunena_v3.0.6.zip

I was successful in installing another component, however, called Xmap.


I have also seen errors like this when trying to install from directory:

JCE editor or extplorer

they will not install either
