Search FlexiContent Plugin not working for content

I would much prefer to fix the root of the problem, but this solution is so quick it's kind of a no-brainer:

ReReplacer: www.nonumber.nl/extensions/rereplacer

Find this in entire site: component/flexicontent/items/item/

Replace with: component/flexicontent/item/

Voila!

My guess is you have many duplicate links in com_content and com_flexicontent.
This is causing Joomla core SEF to get confused and create odd links, non-working links, as as well as 404s.

For example, last one on your example search page: DVDs
That link goes here
www.nwhorsesource.com/component/content/category/1011-dvds

The reason it includes
/component/content/category/
is because Joomla core SEF has found a conflict and cannot make an SEF link.
So it defaults to that generic link structure.

Following that link leads to a page with a list of DVDs.
The top one is
Animal Awareness Features Equine and Canine Introduction DVD Packages
the link for that is
www.nwhorsesource.com/component/content/...duction-dvd-packages

This is a core SEF com_content article link which again displays evidence of a sections/categories conflict error.

Follow that link and it gets re-written by FLEXIcontent to
www.nwhorsesource.com/index.php?option=c...duction-dvd-packages

This link is not SEF again due to conflicts.

The DVDs FLEXIcontent category link on that Item page goes to
www.nwhorsesource.com/component/flexicontent/category

Non-SEF link again is again evidence of a conflict.
This link is also a 404.

Solution:
My guess is that you have old menu items still pointing to com_content sections and categories (hard to tell exactly what is what with SEF On).
These old menu items should be deleted.
All your category links in your menus should be FLEXIcontent category menu items.

Turn-Off Joomla core SEF and look at all your links.
This will help find the source of the duplicates/conflicts.

This may (probably) will fix the other /items/ issue.

Also delete old com_content article links.
These will conflict with FLEXIcontent Items of the same title.

Also hard to tell what is happening without a pathway/breadcrumbs.
Can help show where the nav structure problems are.
Pathway is also helpful to your users (better website usability).

- all items in a category with a menulink work fine
- all items in a category without a menulink doesn't work

so flexicontent search just doesn't work without the menu link?
